U.S. Marine Hadnott sentenced for 4 years in Okinawa
I told you I would keep following up this story, and this is probably the final chapter in the Tyrone Hadnott non-rape case which started back on February 11th. Well Hadnott has his court martial in Okinawa at the end of last week and was sentenced to 4 years in prison for “abusive sexual contact”, one year of which will be a suspended sentence. The common consensus seems to be that it is a fair sentence given what little is known about what actually happened. The military were always going to do something against Hadnott, be it to act as a future deterrent for others, to be seen to be doing something about it in the eyes of the Japanese people (who would have only accepted a public hanging I think for the non-rape), or whatever.
This hopefully draws a line under the whole event and with a little luck, it will be forgotten as quickly as the police giving a lighter to a suicidal man covered in kerosene while in custody! Incidentally, after that first report on the story, NOTHING has been in the news.
