US Marine’s release: a tiny update
Nothing much to report except a couple of quotes about the release of US Marine Tyrone Hadnott without charge after alleged rape allegations. The chief prosecutor in Naha who was in charge of this case said, “We’ve determined that it isn’t appropriate to indict the suspect by applying charges…out of consideration for the victim’s feelings.” and added, “The girl herself wants to be left in peace.” That does sound like they didn’t have any charge they could stick to the guy. I bet the girl wants to be left in peace as questions as to what actually happened might start to be asked!
It is starting to make the news websites here in Japan, although strangely enough on the Japan Today website it is buried almost at the bottom of the crime section. The Mainichi (the main English-language tabloid in Japan) has the same story as their leading headline on the page. Am sure more will come out on this later today, and I’ll try to give another report later.
