STOP PRESS: Hadnott released!!!
News coming out of Japan as I type. Kyodo and CNN News are reporting that the US Marine arrested with the alleged rape of a 14-year old schoolgirl, Tyrone Hadnott, has been released. Police have said the girl’s family have dropped the criminal complaint against him.
Don’t know if he’s going to be charged with anything or not, but all will become clear in the next 48 hours I’m sure. I still expect a charge of sexual misconduct, but he has been freed at the moment. Firstly, this is excellent news as it seems almost certain that a rape did not occur, and maybe not even a (serious) crime (although that is too early to speculate). I wonder if the truth about this story will come out. My feelings are still that she was possible having a relationship with the guy, but we’ll see what happens. Will be very interesting to see the Japanese media’s spin on this; will they try to sweep what has happened under the carpet with the allegations, or will they give an unbiased report on what has happened? Regardless, Hadnott is still an idiot for even seeing this girl and kissing her if he had any idea of her age
That’s all for now, but I’m sure some of you will have comments about this. Please leave your thoughts.
EDIT: The Mainichi and BBC are also reporting this now. The BBC is noting that Hadnott has been released by Japanese police and is now in Marine Corps custody.

Darn-it! I had just finished my “Free Hadnott” sign and was going to attach it to my car whilst I travel from base-to-base, and base-to-home…
The question now is what are the ramifications?
Will the reflection be over Monday?
Will we go back to pseudo-normal?
Will the 14-year olds stop with the thigh-high skirts and getting on bikes/in cars with men twice.5 times their age?
Me personally, I am looking at all of the GOOD things that have arisen from this:
I have had soooo much time reflecting that my yard is immaculate, my car is spotless, and my house belongs in a magazine…
The “recall roster” at my command has N-E-V-E-R been so accurate.
Everyone knows each other more better (me know) since we have had to request to go off-base to do ____ and everyone sees the requests.
We were able to see, to some degree, what type of an effect (affect?) the SOFA-status dollar has on the local economy in several areas.
Hawaii some go next year? Guam in 2014? I can’t wait.
Will 38 year old men Marines stop asking 14 year old girls to get on their bikes with them too?!
There are some good things to come out of this; one of the main ones being making the off-base local economy realise how much money is injected by the US military here in Okinawa. If the lockdown is carried on much further, I’ll start to believe this is the reason it was implemented in the first place
You need to change your banner to a much more Japanese-like “No rape! No charge!” one!
