Rumours of another rape?
Well, Okinawa is now making world news, and I’m happy to say that I think my blog was the first to break the lockdown story. I also have you guys out there to thank for visiting this page and making yesterday the most popular day ever for my site in terms of visitors. Every visitor is highly appreciated and I hope my writings will make you return. Special thanks to those ladies & gents who have left comments on the current situation here in Japan.
I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but there are rumours (and I stress rumours) of another rape having occurred in the past week or so by someone in the US Army. The girl in question is a Philippino who was working at a snack bar called Mermaids in one of the red light districts (Yoshihara). Apparently, the guy paid for sex with the girl, but something happened after that and the girl cried rape. She is said to still be in the hospital at the moment. The Japanese press don’t seem to have got hold of this story at the moment (maybe as it hasn’t been confirmed, although that hasn’t stopped them in the past) but if they do it will be making the headlines again. Wonder how they would report an incident like this; with the victim being foreign then you would think they would see it as a lesser crime than the victim being Japanese, but with the alleged perpetrator being in the military, they would like this story at the moment.
As I said, this is a rumour and hasn’t been officially confirmed, but if it is then it is very bad news. Stories of Condoleeza Rice making an unscheduled trip to the island and people high up in the US military here wanting to move 8,000 Marines from Okinawa ASAP could mean some big changes for the island over the next 6-12 months.
Meanwhile, the lockdown continues…
EDIT: And just as I publish this entry the story is breaking on Japan Today. There are stories of someone in the US armed forces and his Japanese wife getting set upon by a big group of guys in Naha last weekend, but I sincerely doubt these will be reported by the Japanese media. There are also reports of Japanese police pulling over plenty of Y-plate cars and asking them who they are, where they are going and why.

I’m not gunna say who I am, however my wife’s sister works at the hospital where the Filipino lady was taken after being severely beaten, she just told me about it tonight. Her sister could not disclose too much to her however did say that there was a Filipino lady brought in and had been beaten pretty badly. So it seems that it is not a rumor because it is coming from the source. Im not saying she was raped or even that it was an american that did it. She could not tell us full details which is completely understandable.
Well thank you for those comments, and I completely understand you not wanting to say who you are. The news feeds all over the world are carrying this story of another (sexual?) assault which is unbelievable after everything that’s gone on over the past 10 days.
