Riyo Mori of Japan wins Miss Universe
At the weekend, Miss Riyo Mori, from Shizuoka, won the Miss Universe crown at a glitzy competition held in Mexico City. Although not expeceted to do as well as last year’s entrant (Kurara Chibana, incidentally from Naha), she won the prestigious event with contestants from Brazil and Venezuela coming in 2nd and 3rd respectively. And here is a picture of her as Donald Trump, the smooth operator that he is, moves in for the kill!

Mori was obviously delighted with the award, and tears were in full flow as the Y25,000,000 crown was placed on her head. Mori is actually the 2nd Japanese entrant to win the Miss Universe title, after Akiko
Kojima won in 1959.
In downtown Mexico City, a mock Miss Universe event was held, featuring such contestants as Miss Marijuana, Miss Sexual Health and Miss Human Rights. The group running the event yelled out, “Neither ugly nor beautiful, should a woman be considered an object!”.
So as Miss Mori starts her world tour talking about all things humanitarian and trying to bring peace to the world, one question remains. Are we in Japan going to be subjected to endless repeats of her winning the title, as we were following Shizuka Arakawa’s victory in the winter olympics, or Mao Asada’s victory in the 2005-06 figure skating grand prix final. I somehow suspect so.
But congrats to her all the same and it’s good to see Japan getting success.

Hi Dave,
A bit of your inner beauty must’ve shone off to Miss Mori and that’s how she was able to win.
I must admit that she does look better in the picture without Mr. Trump.
The Thai girls at World Resort reported yesterday about this, during lunch and according to them, Miss Thailand was with the last 15.
Miss Thailand, aka Miss Faroong Yuttitham, age 19 and a student at Rajamangala University of Technology did indeed get a place in the top 15 at the Miss Universe competition. She also has her own website at http://mtu.ch7.com/index.html, which I’m sure is fascinating if you speak Thai!
