[...] When I initially started to write this article, I elected to give you ladies and gents a full recount of the history of Okinawa. About its prehistoric times, when a land bridge existed between Okinawa, Yonaguni (probably the time when the underwater ruins were above the waves) and China… about it originally being a separate country called the Ryukyu Kingdom, whose king believed in not fighting because “Life itself is a treasure”… about its invasion in the 1600s by Satsuma (the feudal domain in Japan, not the type of orange!)… about the Japan’s constant classification of Okinawans as second-class citizens (a practice which still occurs today). But then I decided that the most influential time for Okinawa occurred in the first half of 1945, and the battle of Okinawa. This will be the focus of my blog entry today. [...]

Hey Davey! Great report on Yonaguni, I could not have said so much in so many detaisl myself, even days after having been there, let alone a few years! I think yiur article will be of great use to anyone who is interested in this particular place, but also for students and fans of archeology and geology in general. It made me relive my own trip, which was also nice! Good to hear you had a good time! I am somewhat jealous... ;-) Talk soon Andree

Hey Merche. Thanks for the comment. Yeah - I was diving with Rui at Sawes, but Kanae was out of the shop most of the time I was there. The other divers were Kei (male instructor), Nacchi (relatively new - only been there 3 months) and Naomi. They were all great divers and people, and I've a lot of respect for them.

Speak soon. Hope all's going well for you.

Hi Dave (from rainy Belfast where I am working at the moment)!
What a fab report! It reminded me the good times I had when I went to Yonaguni in July, from the photos, I take you were diving with Rui in Sawes? He is a nice guy, was Kanae there too?

Gotta rush, but will be in touch soon! Happy diving!

It was an excellent trip, thanks. I will try and head back there some time in the middle of the year, maybe at the start of summer. I want to do some more dives on the ruins, as well as catch up with friends over there too.

Sorry to hear you had problems getting the videos to run. I'm sure it's due to you having a slow interweb connection, and the folks might have the same problem. It's time for you to get a speedy internet connection and get dragged kicking and screaming into the 21st century!!!

Incidentally, my students feel the similarities between me and the horse in that second-to-last photo are remarkable! All of them have gone crazy when I've showed it to them... one girl was almost in tears!

Hi Dave,
Good pics and loved the dive footage (took a while for my pc to play them all through, kept having to rewind and play again to play fully through - yes, you know I'm not very pc literate!). Unlikely natural phenomena given your clips.
Sounds like another good trip eh?
Gonna read more now, see you later.
