Big in Japan

Dives 123-127 (28/05-04/06)

Well, it’s been a while since I posted on my blog so I thought I should update it with my diving logs and stories over the past couple of weeks.  So, if you’re all sitting comfortably, I’ll begin with my logs…

Temperature: Air - 22C, water - 26C

Comments: First dive in an age with Matt & Crystal.  The dive was initially planned for Saturday but was put off due to undiveable conditions.  We headed left along the reef and encountered areas of stiff currents coming back.  Matt spotted a small eel as well, hiding away.  Crystal finished pretty low on air, but nobody was every overly concerned - she was in safe hands with me & Matt!
Total dive time (hrs:mins): 83:57

Comments: The 2nd dive of the day was under cloudy skies and some drizzle.  Crystal didn’t join us as the current from the last dive tired her out a bit, so it was just me and Matt.We saw lots of cool stuff though: a preying mantis shrimp (my first), another big shrimp and plenty of large fish.  A nice dive to end the morning, and indeed the weekend.

Visibility: 13-15m

Comments: A surprisingly good dive, considering the recent weather.  Cloudy skies but a flat ocean greeted us at Sunabe.  Me & Linds headed right along the reef.  Vis was good and there were a few fish out.  Linds had a few equalization problems so we didn’t go too deep in general.  As always, plenty of healthy soft coral to see.
Total dive time (hrs:mins): 85:24

Dive Number: 126
Date: 04/06/06
Location: Maeda

Bottom time: 49 mins

Comments: I dived with Lindsey, but we intended to follow Brian and his student down to 30m.  Linds had problems  with her ears again though, so most of the dive was spent between 10 and 14m.  She almost got wiped out on exit by a huge wave on exit though - more on that in my other blog entry for today.
Total dive time (hrs:mins): 86:13

Dive Number: 127
Date: 04/06/06
Location: Maeda
Time in: 10:45
Time out: 11:20
Bottom time: 35 mins
Max depth: 23.1m
Weight: 12 lbs
Exposure protection: 5mm wetsuit, gloves, booties

Temperature: Air - 26C, water - 25C
Visibility: 12m
Starting air pressure: 204 bar
Ending air pressure: 119 bar

Comments: Linds didn’t fqancy the 2nd dive, so I dived with Brian and his AOW student.  My camera lens fogged up during the dive - must remember to put some new silica gel in there so it doesn’t happen again.  Saw an eel, but that’s about it in the way of exciting marine life.  I should add that the entry and exit were a little rough - we got in on the right of the steps as it was a little calmer there.
