Tekwings, trauma and tragic Rugby League!
Well, a lack of dive buddies last weekend meant that no diving was on the cards for me. I’m not a huge advocate of solo diving and especially when I don’t have a pony bottle or any sort of backup if everything goes pear-shaped. So this entry will be relatively short, but hopefully sweet…
First on the agenda is a few thoughts on my AP Valves Buddy Tekwing. I bought this wing at the start of Feb and have to say that it’s a great piece of kit, especially at the price I paid at Divers Warehouse, including delivery to Japan. Admittadly, it’s probably not going to win any fashion awards with it’s red and black design, but it’s visible in the water and that’s what will count for most of us. It gives plenty of bouyancy and will keep you afloat on the surface without pushing your head into the water, like many other wings (although it will do this if you overinflate it). Underwater it keeps you dead set level, which I love. Some people like to swim sideways when swimming past reef walls and the Tekwing, like most other wings, will not allow. It’s also fine with a single tank, and has enough bouyancy for a set of twins if I want to go down that route later on. People seem to have a love/hate relationship with wings and I decided to take a chance and buy one without having tried them out. I was lucky, but would definately recommend that anyone considering buying a wing and backplate to try one out at your local dives shop or diving club first. They are not for everyone.
Since purchasing mine, I have made a few modifications. Firstly, I have changed the double crotchstrap system to a single full size one. This requires a little cutting of a panel in the plastic backplate but that was easily done. The second mod was cutting the inflator hose on the wing as it was about 15cm too long in my opinion. It’s much easier to handle and use now. I’ve added a toggle and string to the right shoulder dump valve in place of the blanking plate which is there as standard. And finally I’ve bought some pockets for the wing. I’ve got a couple of weight pockets from the Inspiration rebreather, and the front pocket from that too, to hold my slates and tables.
Finally, what is going on with my beloved rugby league club, Wigan? We’ve got yet another coach at the helm in Brian Noble, but there’s something seriously wrong at the heart of the club. Let me know if you have any ideas what it is.

Your beloved Wigan have just thumped my beloved Huddersfield.
Brian Noble certainly worked his magic there!
Personaly I couldn’t support any team that had Maurice Lyndsey on board. I can’t forgive him for what he did to my beloved sport. I am affraid I am of the ‘Old School’ with RL.
It’s never been the same since we went to summer RL. I miss having something to do on a cold winters Sunday afternoons. There are far too many distractions in the summer months and RL has been ‘relegated’ in my order of priorities. Shame as I loved the game.
1. Problem with Wigan - SABOTAGE BY IAN MILLWARD!!!!!!!!!!!
2. Not sure you should be sharing things about the buoyancy of wings and sets of twins….. or maybe that’s just me…..
